So This is The New Year!
Wow! It’s hard to believe another year has passed. I was always told by my mom & other folks around me that the years just go by faster & faster as you age. They sure seemed to be right because I kind of can’t believe it!
Honestly though, in the years since I’ve quit drinking- somehow I’ve fallen in love with New Years tradition. This is truly a time to reflect on what was & what will be. I think it’s such a beautiful moment to really decide what you wish to leave behind & what you’d like to invite more into your life.
Also, if you missed this GIF from my email. Well it’s a fav from Vanilla Sky - & it deserves to live on so here it is lol!
Here are some of the ways I love to ring in the New Year (without alcohol hehe!)
✨ Set Intentions for New Year: Spend some time sitting or laying down comfortably & just really reflect on your visions for the New Year. Who do you want to be? What are you spending your time doing? How are you showing up for yourself and your loved ones? Imagine yourself at the end of 2023 & what all you want to have done. Really lean into the emotions & feelings of who this version of you is.
✨ Clear Out What No Longer Serves You: This is such a perfect time to clear your physical & mental spaces out. If you have time off, going through closets or your home office- anywhere you’re holding onto past items. If you’re not using it, box it up & donate away. Even decluttering your phone & email can have a great reduction on your stress. Clearing out things going into the New Year feels right! This is also the time to reflect on anything in your life you willingly do that isn’t providing you peace overall. Things & relationships can sometimes be difficult of course. But it’s also important to recognize when something is no longer in alignment for you & really just needs to be shed.
✨ Write Down Your Plans: There’s a lot of research to prove writing down your goals & desires really does work. In our brain network we have something called the RAS or Reticular Activating System. This part of our brain “acts as a filter for incoming sensory information” & helps us narrow down what we want. Like if you’ve ever decided you want to buy a certain car in a particular make+model. Now everywhere you go, you suddenly see them? That’s your RAS at work. Which we can use to our advantage if we write out our goals & meditate on them frequently. Our brain will begin to see this as our reality & will continue to help find ways to acheive what it believes is already ours. Pretty cool right? So I am definitely a believer in not only setting intentions & truly feeling them - but to take pen to paper & physically write them out & go over them often! read about RAS
✨ Try a New Recipe: I think trying a new recipe is a really great way to ring in the new year. If you’re like me, you want to cook more at home in 2023, so try to find a recipe you’ve never made before that’s nourishing. Bonus points if it’s easy enough to turn into a weekly meal prep idea!
✨Perform a Skincare Ritual: As your skin witch, of course I would absolutely love it if you celebrate the new year with a skincare ritual. I’m all about setting the mood so get a simmer pot going or light a (hopefully) non toxic candle! When you perform your skincare steps, take extra time throughout the entire routine! Gently massage your cleanser a bit longer. When applying your potions- massage them in. Perhaps get out your gua sha stone or cold roller you’ve possibly been neglecting. Grab some eye gels or a sheet mask too. I love to get snuggly on the couch with a big blanket, some sleepy tea, & a great book to complete the vibe!
✨ Make Delicious Mocktails: It’s been quite a few years since I first stopped drinking alcohol. In so many ways my life became better for it. But you don’t have to quit drinking to enjoy a mocktail! The sober curious lifestyle is becoming so much more popular & I’m really grateful to witness it. There are many recipes online for delightful beverages sans alcohol. You might not even miss it! (below is a recipe I tried recently & really loved! I used 1/2 cup maple syrup instead & coconut sugar for the rim!)
Above all, always allow yourself grace. Making any changes can be difficult & overwhelming at times. So don’t be too hard on yourself if you didn’t complete all your goals last year or this upcoming one. Celebrate the small wins & continue to practice loving kindness towards yourself. No one is more deserving of love & care than you!
Happy New Year to all my beautiful witches! I hope you have a magical rest of the year. I look forward to seeing your glowing faces in 2023!
Xo,
Katie
